Nintendo announced information about upcoming 3DS titles during Wednesday’s Nintendo Direct. The biggest news was a new 3DS Legend of Zelda (read more about it here).
In February, Nintendo declared 2013 the Year of Luigi. In the latest video, the company released plenty of information about upcoming Luigi and Mario-centered games. The previously announced Mario & Luigi Dream Team received an Aug 11 release date. Dream Team will see Mario, Luigi and Peach traveling to Pi’illo Island. When they arrive, some weird stuff happens when Luigi falls asleep and Princess Peach gets sucked into his dreams. Now, Mario has to rescue her by traveling into Luigi’s dreams and finding answers in the real world. The game will take place in the RPG-ish strain of Mario games.
[adsense250itp]Another previously announced Mario and Luigi game, Mario Golf World Tour, still has no release date. The game will allow players to compete around the globe with other Mario Golf World Tour owners. Community features will be available for players connecting over the Internet. The game will also feature local multiplayer. World Tour will allow gamers to create their own tournaments with specific properties and goals, such as a Luigi-only tournament or no special shots.
Mario vs. Donkey Kong was dated for May. Mario and Donkey Kong: Minis on the Move will be a 3DS eShop exclusive available May 9. The game will challenge players with tile-based puzzles. Players will have to lay down tiles to maneuver Mini Mario past obstacles to the level’s goal. Minis on the Move will boast 180 levels and 4 different game modes.
Mario Party is back. In time for the Year of Luigi, the new 3DS Mario Party will be out this winter for Nintendo’s handheld. Mario Party will feature seven new game boards with specific rules and 81 new mini-games that will have friends at each other’s throats. Outside of the game boards, players can play mini-games solo or try a 30-floor tower climb. AR Card Games and StreetPass functionality will also factor into the game.
Other May 3DS releases will be the previously announced Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D, The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages and The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons (read more about these Zelda 3DS eShop titles here).
Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D will be available on May 24. The 3DS port of the Wii game features a new difficulty mode to better suit portable gaming. The new mode will feature three new items such as Portable DK barrel, Green Balloon and Crash Guard to ameliorate the tough difficulty of the Wii version. Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D will feature both new and original Wii difficulties and co-op play.
On June 9, Animal Crossing will arrive in the U.S. on the 3DS. To commemorate the new Animal Crossing game, Nintendo will release a limited edition 3DS XL bundle. The Animal Crossing 3DS XL Bundle is white with decorations from the Animal Crossing game. It will come with a pre-installed version of the new Animal Crossing. The bundle will retail for $219.99 on June 9 with the launch of Animal Crossing on 3DS.
The last of the Nintendo major announcements was that they are developing a new 3DS Yoshi’s Island. Originally released in 1995 for the SNES, Yoshi’s Island was a hit among gamers. Yoshi’s Island DS, the last entry in the series was released in 2006. Nintendo will bring back Yoshi and Baby Mario to the 3DS. Plenty of the signature moves of the series will return as well as some new features to take advantage of the 3DS. No exact release date has been announced, but likely more information will be forthcoming at E3.
