Nintendo Proclaims 2013 as Year of Luigi

Nintendo announced several Luigi themed projects during the latest Nintendo Direct, claiming 2013 is the year of Luigi.
In addition to the previously announced Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon set to hit 3DS in March, Nintendo announced a new 3DS game starring Mario and his taller brother as well as New Super Mario Bros. U DLC featuring Luigi.
Mario & Luigi: Dream Team is a newly revealed game for 3DS, with the plumber in green taking on the starring role. It may be odd to call the Mario brothers a dream team considering how many times they have already gone on adventures together, but the title actually refers to Luigi’s dreams being explored in the game.
Luigi will also be the star of the upcoming New Super Luigi U downloadable content pack for New Super Mario Bros. U. The DLC is expected to add a ton of new content to the side-scroller for Wii U. Nintendo said the Luigi bonus content is being handled similar to the development of full scale software.
New Super Luigi DLC for New Super Mario Bros. U will bring changes to the game’s main campaign. It will essentially give players an entirely new experience by emphasizing playing through the new campaign as Luigi. More information is expected to be unveiled soon.
The large size of the additional content means it will take quite a bit of time and effort from Nintendo to be ready for release. The company said the Luigi DLC will be ready to launch later this year.
