Nintendo Ambiio Release Date

Nintendo’s first foray into the “toys to life” genre will launch alongside Super Smash Bros. for Wii U on Nov. 21.

The first wave of Amiibo figures — Mario, Peach, Yoshi, Donkey Kong, Link, Fox, Samus, Wii Fit Trainer, Villager, Pikachu, Kirby and Marth — will be available for $12.99. In December, a second wave of toys is expected to add Zelda, Diddy Kong, Luigi, Little Mac, Pit and Captain Falcon to the line.

[adsense250itp]Amiibo figures give gamers new gameplay experiences with compatible games. Simply tapping an Amiibo on the Wii U GamePad activates them. Figures will be compatible with multiple Nintendo titles.

Super Smash Bros. for Wii U will be the first to support the toys. Mario Party 10 and Yoshi’s Woolly World will natively support Nintendo Amiibo figures, while a future update will add support for Mario Kart 8.

Nintendo also announced Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker will release Dec. 5 at a price of $39.99. Treasure Tracker is an expanded version of the mini-games featured in Super Mario 3D World. The game, which will mark the first time Toad has a game of his own, received a warm reception after it was announced at E3 2014. It will include support for select Amiibo figures in 2015.

Quick Take

Even though an effective case for Amiibo figures has yet to be made, the toys look stellar. Nintendo fans will enjoy putting the toys on display even if they never use them for their video game purposes. The more interesting news is Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker, which expands on a fun idea at an affordable price.
