Nintendo Announces Yoshi, Mario Kart, Others For Wii U
Just a few days after Nintendo released their game schedule for 2013, the company decided to drop even more news during their Nintendo Direct presentation. Though many fans were disappointed by the lack of a solid release date for games such as Pikmin 3 and The Wonderful 101, their confidence should return at the mention of some big upcoming Wii U games and announcements. Super Smash Bros, Yoshi and Mario Kart were all mentioned during the conference.
Perhaps the biggest reveals were for Nintendo’s biggest titles: The Legend of Zelda and Super Mario. Eiji Aonuma, who is the producer behind The Legend of Zelda series announced a new Zelda game was in the works along with an HD version of the Gamecube classic The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker.
Mario fans will be glad to hear that the team behind Super Mario Galaxy for the Wii and Super Mario 3D Land for the DS–Nintendo EAD Tokyo Software–are working on a new 3D Mario action game for the Wii U. Mario fans will finally be able to experience a 3D Mario game with high-definition graphics. What’s more surprising is that the game is scheduled to be playable at this year’s E3. The next installment in the Mario Kart franchise was announced to be in development. It will be playable at E3 as well.
A new Yoshi title has been rumored and it has now been made official. The team behind Kirby’s Epic Yarn, is working on Yarn Yoshi. This will be the first console game to feature Yoshi as the main character since 1998′s Yoshi’s Story for the Nintendo 64. Takashi Tezuka, who was the director of Yoshi’s Island and Yoshi’s Story, will be supervising the development of the title. Yarn Yoshi will feature a graphical style similar to Kirby’s Epic Yarn.
A new feature for Pikmin 3 was revealed as well. Players will be able to use the GamePad as a camera to share the same perspective as Pikmin and also take close-up pictures to share in the Miiverse.
Wii Fit U will include a new feature that lets player create communities on the Miiverse within the game. Members of a community can talk about excercises, BMI, weight changes or any other health topics as a way to inspire each other and reach goals. Similar functionality has also been planned for other games.
A new Wii Party game has a planned launch for the summer and features various play styles including a head-to-head mode using the GamePad.
An impressive RPG collaboration will be coming to the Wii U. Nintendo has partnered with Atlus and are working on a game that combines the Fire Emblem and Shin Megami Tensei franchises. Tetsuya Takahashi and Monolith Soft, the team behind Xenoblade for the Wii, are also working on a new game.
A new trailer for The Wonderful 101 was shown along with a new video for Bayonetta 2.
Finally, it was revealed that a new Super Smash Bros. game is on the way. Unfortunately, more time is needed before any details will be revealed.
