NHL 14 cover

NHL 14 will feature New Jersey Devils goal tender Martin Brodeur on the cover, EA Sports and developer EA Canada announced.

Fans were able to vote for the cover athlete thanks to the EA NHL 14 campaign on NHL.com. More than 22 million fans let their voices be heard in a contest that ultimately came down to Brodeur and fellow goal tender Sergei Bobrovsky of the Columbus Blue Jackets. The campaign ended June 28.

“The support I’ve received throughout the cover vote campaign has been incredible,” Broduer said in a press release. “My kids pushed me to participate in the campaign, and they are really excited to see their dad on the cover of the game they play all the time. I want to thank all the NHL fans who campaigned and voted for me.”

NHL 14 has several exciting new features for this year, including Collision Physics, which will allow the player to land bigger hits with more thrilling collisions. It also features a new One Touch Deke system allowing for quicker, more responsive dekes and intuitive gameplay. With the new True Performance Skating system, players will move faster than ever before with greater responsiveness and better gameplay control.

The game also includes the new Enforcer Engine, which will introduce punch-targeting during fights to the franchise to provide an even more exciting experience for players. NHL 14 also offers an all new career mode in which every decision players will determine the path their career takes.

NHL 14 is scheduled to release on Sept. 10 for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. EA Sports has no plans to release a version of the game for next-generation consoles.

The announcement was accompanied by a reveal trailer featuring a showdown between Brodeur and Bobrovsky. The trailer ends when Brodeur makes a miraculous game-winning shot. The NHL 14 Cover Athlete Reveal trailer can be viewed below.
