New Trailer Shows How to Survive The Evil Within

The Evil Within

Tango Gameworks is set to bring the “survival” back to survival horror with The Evil Within.

[adsense250itp]Director Shinji Mikami is no stranger to the genre due to his heavy involvement with the Resident Evil series and The Evil Within looks to pull a lot of inspiration from those past games.

Players will take on the role of Sebastian Castellanos, a detective at the Krimson City Police Department. Sebastian is called to investigate a multiple homicide at the city’s mental hospital and things go sour quick.

To help players better survive the horrors of the game, a new trailer titled “Every Last Bullet” has been released.

Don’t Rely on Bullets

Guns are always a great solution in horror games. A headshot can usually topple most foes and bullets do much more damage than melee attacks. But like any good game about survival, The Evil Within will make ammo a luxury. There are no stores found in the game which means any ammunition will have to be scavenged whenever possible.

“The Haunted” are the game’s basic enemies and sometimes using guns won’t be an option. Running and hiding can save Sebastian’s life when ammo is at its most scarce. Thankful, players will be able to use deadly traps against enemies rather than falling victim to them. The Agony Crossbow is said to be one of the strongest weapons in the game and can hold multiple types of bolts. Explosive bolts will be handy in clearing out a room or dealing heavy damage to a boss.

Bring the Matches

The Evil Within will play a mean trick on players by not having enemies always stay down when they’ve been shot or bludgeoned to death. Many types of The Haunted don’t stay dead and the only surefire way of making sure they do will be to set them on fire.

“The Haunted” don’t always stay dead, so set them on fire.

Matches, like bullets, will be in short supply so piling up bodies to engulf in flames should be a priority to take out as many as possible. Eventually, players will be able to tell what types of enemies have a tendency to resurrect and which don’t, but gasoline and torches will also do a great job at bathing foes in flames.

Gather Green Brain Jars

It might sound disgusting but collecting as much “green gel” as possible will be essential for survival. The Evil Within will be packed with tense, unsettling moments but players will be able to temporarily take Sebastian to a safe haven. Throughout the world mysterious mirrors will grant players access to a place called The Asylum.

Maybe there will be an upgrade to help survive this monster?

Acting as the game’s hub world, The Asylum is where players will be able to upgrade Sebastian. Weapons, inventory and abilities will be available to upgrade and the green gel is essential in the process. Players will have to figure out if they want to upgrade Sebastian’s stamina, health meter, ammo capacity or weapon damage. Without upgrades, Sebastian will be as good as dead.

The Evil Within will release on Oct. 14 for PS4, PS3, Xbox One, Xbox 360 and PC.
