New Releases: Week of 9/13

This week’s new releases focus mainly on playing with others. Whether it is competing against others in your favorite athletic simulators, racing competitors around the world, or trying to prevent the universe from coming under ruin, this week is about competitive and co-operative play.
Tackle a new threat in Destiny: The Taken King, find the perfect car in Forza Motorsport 6, take the ice in NHL 16, and get ready for some football in Pro Evolution Soccer 2016.
Destiny: The Taken King – PS4, Xbox One, PS3, Xbox 360 – September 15
Armed with a new Ghost, Guardians can tackle the coming threat of Oryx, The Taken King in the latest addition to the Destiny universe. Facing down Oryx’s “Taken” army and infiltrating his Dreadnought is the main mission for Guardians to prevent the utter destruction of everything.
The Taken King adds a wealth of new content to the core Destiny experience. Including a new story campaign complete with new quests, enemies, locations to discover. It also adds new Strikes, Crucible maps, and a Raid for Guardians to test their skills. Those at the level max can now try out three new subclasses while searching for the new loot the Taken King will add.
Forza Motorsport 6 – Xbox One – September 15
Xbox’s premier racing simulator is back again this year with another entry in the main Forza Motrosport series. The game’s single-player “Stories of Motorsport” mode will include 70 hours of gameplay for players to dig into with more than 450 cars to use. Forza Motrosport 6 will have all its cars available at launch with the need to use microtransactions like its predecessor.
A new feature to races in Forza Motorsport 6 is wet-weather driving. No longer is rain simply cosmetic. It now affects how you race with cars facing the danger of skidding and even hydroplaning if racers aren’t careful. The Top Gear license will carryover into the game without the presence of Jeremy Clarkson, but the Top Gear Test Track and the Stig’s digital cousin will be featured along with commentary from Richard Hammond and James May.
NHL 16 – PS4, Xbox One – September 15
It is time to take to the ice again in NHL 16. The latest edition in EA’s hockey series is coming exclusively to current-gen with a separate Legacy release for older systems. A major component of NHL 16 is the return of the EA SPORTS Hockey League. The online mode has been revamped to allow users to choose specialized players classes to challenge others on the ice.
In addition to EASHL returning, players can enjoy 6 vs. 6 online team player with twelve players competing against each other in ranked and un-ranked matches. Or players can enjoy couch co-op online against others while practicing for the game’s more intense online modes. Like always, the game will employ specific gameplay tweaks and additions, as well as graphical improvements with NHL 16 boasting better beard authenticity.
Pro Evolution Soccer 2016 – PS4, Xbox One, PS3, Xbox 360, PC – September 15
Football fans can get an early jump on their football simulation needs with Pro Evolution Soccer 2016. PES 2016 aims to continue the mission of its predecessor by taking the game back to its core gameplay facets. The game will employ an advanced collision system to allow for unique interactions based on player impacts, as well PES 2016 implements a new physicality system with aerial battles being completely unique and allowing for a level of strategy in battles. There will also be more customization to goal keepers to allow for a larger variety of control over how the goal keepers operate in the game.
Other new features include better 1v1 player control offering players a wider range of fluidity and flexibility when controlling players in a game. Improvements to defense come in the form of Perfect Defense, which allows players to take control of a stolen ball immediately if they time a shove perfectly, and improved team AI makes defensive options more intelligent. Additional improvements over PES 2016’s modes and feature are also present with the unique ability to choose how a players’ team celebrates after scoring a goal.
