Ultra Street Fighter IV

Another month means more new games to play. As we enter August, gamers are starting off with a few cool new indie titles and something to throw dragon punches by. This week’s new releases include Ultra Street Fighter IV, Road Not Taken and Metrico.

Ultra Street Fighter IV – PS3, Xbox 360 – August 5

The hype is back! Well, it technically has been out since June but Ultra Street Fighter IV is getting its retail release after being available as a digital upgrade for a few months. The digital upgrade came out early to give EVO competitors time to practice. Watching the game in action by top level players during EVO 2014 shows the craft Capcom put into making Ultra worth players’ money.

The update adds six new stages and five new characters to the game with Rolento, Elena, Hugo, Poison and introduces Decapre. It features “Edition Select” allowing players to choose characters’ past iteration from different Street Fighter IV versions.

The game also gives players a “Double Ultra” option to use both Ultras at once but with reduced damage. Additionally, Ultra features balance changes, a new Red Focus move, a “delayed wakeup” technique and removes all unblockable setups.

The updated version is currently available on PSN and Xbox Marketplace for owners of Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition.

Road Not Taken – PS4 – August 5

Road Not Taken is about surviving life’s surprises. It combines the challenges of a puzzle game with the unique difficulty and randomness of a roguelike. The game features procedurally-generated levels to deliver unlimited possibilities for players to tackle.

Players take control of a ranger exploring a forest after a harsh winter storm. The ranger must rescue lost children in this winter-worn forest. Actions taken in the game influence the ranger’s story, the villagers met along the way and the town you settle in.

The game will release on Steam later in August and in the fall on PS Vita. PS Plus owners receive the game as part of August’s free games.

Metrico – PS Vita – August 5

Metrico features a world filled with infographics. Players must move through levels populated by bar charts, line diagrams and pie charts. These infographics react to your movements, actions and inputs. It requires creative thinking to tackle the unique challenges Digital Dreams throws at players.

The game asks players to explore and experiment as they see how movement affects the game’s world. Careful analysis of situations in the game is important to progress.

Metrico is a unique PS Vita exclusive available free to PS Plus members upon release.
