Until Dawn

We have arrived at the end of summer, for the most part. Now we embark on a whirlwind of big game releases straight into the thick holiday season. This final week of August brings some heat for everyone.

This week of new releases includes the choice-driven horror game, Until Dawn, the annual release of foobaw in Madden NFL 16, and some definitiveness and ultimateness in Dishonored: Definitive Edition and Gears of War: Ultimate Edition.

Until Dawn – PS4 – August 25

In a very Cabin in the Woods set-up, Until Dawn sees eight friends heading up to a log cabin for their annual retreat. This getaway happens to take place in a log cabin on the day commorating the disappearance of twin sisters, Beth and Hannah. The eight young people begin to pair off at the beginning of the game unaware a crazed serial killer is aiming to hunt these various couples. While the terror ratchets up in the cabin, a psychiatrist, Dr. Hill is conducting an interview with a mysterious figure. How does all of this add up and who will survive the night?

The central tenant of Until Dawn is choice. Every choice the player makes during the game will have long reaching ramifications. Who survives the night in the mountains is determined by player action, and even if certain couples will get together will be the result of how players decide the player the game. The game is designed for multiple playthroughs with a run-time favoring players see how different choices will affect latter outcomes. Will players try to save everyone or let them all perish, it is up the decisions you make during the game.

Madden NFL 16 – Xbox One, PS4, Xbox 360, PS3 – August 25

It is about that time again for some more foobaw! Madden NFL 16 is the yearly edition of EA’s long-running football game. This marks the third entry of the franchise on current-gen consoles bringing with it some new features, improvements, and typical upgrades over the previous years’ entries. All the new improvements being introduced in Madden NFL 16 fall under the banner, “air supremacy”. “Air supremacy” brings a vast of array of new improvement and tweaks to the game including a revamped passing and catching game with new animations, improved AI, better passing mechanics and more.

The new features in “air supremacy” will also feature new catching mechanics, tweaks to quarterback motions and AI, and other offensive improvements. For those that enjoy some passive foobaw in addition to their interactive-passive football, Madden NFL 16 will be adding a new mode called “Draft Champions” to simulate the excitement fervor of fantasy football.

Dishonored: Definitive Edition – PS4, Xbox One – August 25

Dishonored released back in 2012 and left a quiet impression much like Corvo Attano infiltrating a fancy dinner party. It was a shame because Dishonored managed to strike a good balance between stealth and action gameplay. The powers and weaponry at Corvo’s disposal was fascinating and made the game a ton of fun. The world was inventive with a good use of the steampunk aesthetic, and the story was engrossing.
