The Witcher 3: Blood and Wine Review

May is coming to an end with a solid showing of new releases. If you can pry yourself away from Overwatch long enough then this week has some games for you to get ankle deep into.

This week’s new releases include the final expansion for Geralt in The Witcher 3: Blood and Wine, the undead collection in Dead Island: Definitive Edition, re-taking over the Earth in Daydreamer: Awaken Edition, and continuing the hits Episode 3 of Hitman.

There are also a bunch of games are getting their PS4 debut this week: free-to-play Smite, the spooky adventure Oxenfree, and the voice controlled RPG There Came an Echo.

The Witcher 3: Blood and Wine – PS4, Xbox One, PC – May 31

Geralt journeys to the land of summer in Blood and Wine. Toussaint is a remote valley untouched by war and full of wandering knights, noble ladies and beautiful wineries…usually. Geralt couldn’t have timed his visit worse because this kingdom of virtue is being torn apart by a series of savage massacres. Although if there is one man fit to figure out what kind of beast is throwing paradise into chaos, it is Geralt. As he takes on his last great contract, Geralt will encounter beauty clashing with horror and love dancing with deceit.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

The Witcher 3: Blood and Wine.

Blood and Wine is the final expansion for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and marks the finale of Geralt’s story. The expansion is a massive 30 hours + of content with more than 90 new quests. It also adds a bunch of new features like a dynamic Point of Interest system, a new Gwent deck, new endgame mutation mechanics, and a home Geralt can call his own.

Dead Island: Definitive Edition – PS4, Xbox One, PC – May 31

Dead Island is heading to current-gen consoles in a fancy the fancy Definitive Edition. The collection will include Dead Island and its pseudo-sequel Dead Island: Riptide now in beautiful HD. To support the new visuals, both games were rebuilt in Techland’s next gen engine giving the game better overall visuals and performance with better quality textures, new lighting system, and a slew of other improvements.

In addition to better visuals the game will take advantage of current-gen consoles’ features like online 4 player co-op, Remote-Play and Share-Play on PS4, and streaming and recording. For PC, both games will get the unofficial PC mod added in to play crazier versions of the game. Besides the two Dead Island games redone for current-gen consoles, the collection also includes Dead Island: Retro Revenge. This classic side-scroller meets endless runner action game give the zombie mayhem a 16-bit make over with melee based-combat, power-ups, super attacks, and a combo system.

Daydreamer: Awakened Edition – PS4 – May 31

What would you do if you found out you were the last human on Earth? In Daydreamer: Awakened Edition, you’ve been asleep for over a thousand of years, in that time aliens took over Earth and kept you as a trophy in suspended animation. You’re woken from your sleep by a mysterious figure that sends you on a dangerous journey to the Earth’s core in an attempt to overthrow the invading aliens. The expedition won’t be simple because the aliens will fiercely hunt you and worse the Earth is overrun by terrifying creatures angling to eat you up.

Daydreamer: Awakened Edition

Daydreamer: Awakened Edition has a classic arcade shoot ‘em up feel with a boss centric gameplay focus. Outside of typical shoot ‘em up gameplay, players will be able to summon special “pets” formed from the Dreamer’s imagination that’ll give players an edge in fights. The Awakened Edition of Daydream will feature gameplay updates and other refinements not present in the original PC version.

Hitman Episode 3: Marrakesh – PS4, Xbox One, PC – May 31

In the previous episodes of Hitman, Agent 47 has tackled a fashion event in Paris and the coastal romp in Sapienza, Italy. Episode 3 takes him to the streets of Marrakesh. Marrakesh is teeming with life and will be an intricate map to explore. Agent 47 will be able to run through Marrkesh’s rooftops, market place, alley ways, and finally ending up at the Swedish Consulate building. All areas will offer unique locations to carry out the mission.


Hitman; Episode 3 – Marrakesh.

Marrakesh offers players two targets in the “Gilded Cage” mission, which will have players tracking down and eliminating banker Claus Strandberg and army General Reza Zaydan. To get to Claus you’ll have to infiltrate the Swedish Consulate, and to take out General Reza, you’ll have to get past his elite soldier bodyguards hunkered down in the heart of the city. Episode 3 will also feature some new live content for players with the consulate and markets providing good locations for the unique live challenges.

Oxenfree – PS4 – May 31

An excerpt from New Releases: Week of 1/10:
“All Alex wanted was to have fun at her high schools annual trip with her stepbrother, Jonas. Things don’t exactly go according to plan though on the decommissioned military Island used during World War II. Alex and her friends conveniently miss the ferry back home and stay the night on the island. When they sneak down to a forbidden beach to party that is when events take a turn for the macabre. At some point when the kids open a ghostly rift based on the island’s past.”

While Oxenfree debuted on Xbox One and PC a while back, the PS4 will have some new features making it a more definitive version of the game. The DualShock 4 will act as the game’s radio and use the light bar and controller’s speaker to further immerse players in the spooky atmosphere. Also new to the is a New Game+ mode, which will give players a chance to replay the game with foreknowledge prompting some unique dialogue moments and continue beyond the traditional “ending” into new locations, conclusions and a differ understanding of what happens on the island.
