We just keep rolling along on the road to E3, and the new releases just keep coming. This week has a theme of team work and adaptation with the games coming out. If you’re looking to see some new interpretations of some beloved series or work with some bros then you’re in luck.
This week’s new release includes six-on-six battles in Overwatch, brawling in New York City in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutants in Manhattan, and all out fantasy war in Total War: Warhammer.
Overwatch – PC, PS4, Xbox One – May 23
Overwatch places two teams of six heroes against each other in a variety of different challenges to demonstrate who the superior team of heroes is. Teams will battle over objectives, kill the other heroes and go for the win over a number of diverse locations across the globe. The game also has different game modes to give everyone something they’re looking for like competitive play or the weekly brawl with experimental match types.
Maps include four different types: Assault – attackers aim to complete objectives while defenders hold them off, Escort – attackers escorting a payload to a delivery point, while defenders try to keep the payload from reaching its spot, Control – two teams fight for the same objective with the team winning two rounds taking the match, and Assault/Escort – attackers first capture the payload then try to take it to its destination while the defenders stop them.
Before choosing a map type, players will need to choose from 21 heroes with different class types and specialties. Each of the Overwatch heroes has their own class affinities, which players will have to choose from to suit their playstyles. Whether you prefer dealing damage as an offensive hero, controlling the battlefield as a defensive hero, absorbing damage and breaking through defenses as a tank hero, or staying in the cut helping your allies as a support hero, you’ll have a number of ways to support your team and achieve victory.
Every hero has a range of abilities from a primary weapon to basic abilities to ultimate abilities, which can change the flow of the game. Players will earn progress for their heroes as they win matches by gaining level and unlock customization options to give themselves a unique look. It’ll take team work, knowing your hero, and how to best tackle the different maps and game types to achieve victory.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutants in Manhattan – PS4, Xbox One, PS3, Xbox 360, PC – May 24
The four turtle brethren are about to take the battle to the streets, sewers, and subways of New York City because their greatest nemesis is threatening the sanctity of the city that never sleeps. The evil organization, Foot by Foot and aliens are all aiming to destroy New York. To defeat some of the tougher enemies like Rocksteady, Beebop and Shredder will take all the skill the turtles have. Mutant in Manhattan is done in the gritty style of the comics with a story done by IDW Comic’s TMNT author, Tom Waltz.
Four players will team up online to save New York City or go it alone and switch between the four turtles. Choose from Donatello, Raphael, Michelangelo, and Leonardo and utilize a customizable set of Ninjutsu moves, combat items, and special bonuses. Each brother has their own unique team-up moves that can be performed with any other brother to unleash devastation on their enemies. With PlatinumGames at the helm, fans can hopefully expect fluid combat and the same care they put into bringing Transformers: Devastation to life.
Total War: Warhammer – PC – May 24
Total War: Warhammer represents a first for the Total War series with the traditionally realistic war real-time strategy doing the high fantasy genre. The same beloved conventions Total War fans come to expect from the series are back, but this time with the ability to control a number of different fantasy races in gloriously detailed battles and packed with Warhammer flair. The campaign will provide over 100 hours of strategy gameplay for players. Whether you want to command soldiers from the Empire, the Dwarfs, the Vampire Counts, and the Greenskins, there will be plenty of different strategies to employ on the battlefield with unique playstyles and units.
The Grand Campaign map will give players the opportunity to explore massive landscapes with various formidable creatures and play out massive fantasy battles. The maps are packed both with warring races and massive earthly and supernatural creatures, which will interrupt battles changing up the tide. Each race has its own unique characters including eight Legendary Lords from the Warhammer series including special weapons, armor, and magics, which are hard won from the game’s individual quest chains. Every campaign has specific mechanics making every race a unique experience.
