March comes to an end after an explosive month of releases. The final week doesn’t let up on the stacked schedule of releases either.
This week’s new releases include MLB The Show 17, Has-Been Heroes, Rain World, Snake Pass, the third episode of The Walking Dead: New Frontier, and Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 + 2.5 ReMix.
MLB The Show 17 – PS4 – March 28
Sports fans it’s time to lace up those cleats and hit the diamond because it is once again time for The Show!
MLB The Show 17 brings the kid back to baseball with the legendary Ken Griffey Jr. gracing the cover. Griffey Jr. not only is the cover athlete for the game, but he brings a whole new mode to The Show. Retro Mode is inspired by the classic games of the 90s with custom audio, commentary from Griffey Jr., and 8-bit inspired pause menu and HUD. The controls are even retro-inspired as well featuring simple one button inputs. As simple as the controls are, there is still a ton of depth.
Diamond Dynasty and Franchise mode return with some tweaks to further players’ enjoyment. Diamond Dynasty has expanded missions, exclusive rewards, and new live content that react to current baseball events. Franchise mode still lets you devise your strategy to take control of an entire MLB franchise, but reduce the time you spend playing and improves you control.
Road to The Show also returns with deeper RPG elements and a more dynamic story. Players have more control when creating their minor leaguer with huge aspirations with more customization options. When building your legacy, you can unlock and activate Perks, equip stat boosting equipment and rituals to perform better in each game, and try to make it to the majors.
The decisions you make in Road to The Show will play out in documentary-style interstitials as you interact with coaches, managers, reps and more. Whatever actions you choose on-field and off-the-field will affect your legacy.
Has-Been Heroes – PS4, Xbox One, Switch, PC – March 28
In a time when the most celebrated warriors and mages have to hang up because they got too old to fight, King Fortinbrax has one final mission for them to undertake. These wizened heroes are joined by a young rogue to help them on their most difficult mission yet: escort the twin princesses, Avaline and Beatrix to a faraway academy. While it may seem a trivial thing to take the King’s daughters to school, the Great Ghoul and his army of undead have other plans.
In Has-Been Heroes play control three characters in strategic lane-based combat. To defeat the enemies that aim to stop them attacks and cool downs must be managed effectively. Maps are randomly generated so each step taken should be carefully considered.
The game features hundreds of items and spells to use and combine in intriguing and deadly ways. As you face off against countless monsters be careful because the game’s roguelike elements means death is permanent and a mistake can cost you your life.
Rain World – PS4, PC – March 28
In an industrial wasteland with a broken ecosystem where harsh, torrential rains make traveling impossible the animals live for the dry season. During the dry season, it is possible to move around and forage for food. For a nomadic slugcat armed with a spear this dry season is vitally important. Not only does it need to slip past predators and gather enough food to survive the wet seasons; it must also find shelter and the family it was separated from in a flood before the deadly downpours begin again.
As a slugcat, you are both prey and predator. You must use stealth and cunning to get the jump on weaker animal and slip past deadly predators. To find your family, you’ll explore the ruins of an ancient civilization. Rain World boasts 1600 rooms across 12 different regions. There are plenty of secrets to discover along your journey.
Rain World features procedurally generated animations to give the slugcat a unique sense of movement and weight. Players will have their reflexes tested in tough encounters with predators and the constant threat of starvation and deadly rains will test their nerves.
Snake Pass – PS4, Xbox One, Switch, PC – March 28
Harmony Foothills is danger after a mysterious intruder appears to threaten the tranquility of the area. An unexpected hero arises to take on the evil that threatens Harmony Foothills, Noodle the Snake and his hummingbird pal, Doodle. As the two try to reach the top of Haven Tor in order to rescue their slice of paradise from the dangerous intruder.
Snake Pass is a 3D physics based collect-a-thon game with unique mechanics thanks to the way Noodle interacts with the world. Haven Tor is designed for the way Noodle and Doodle interact with the world with plenty of areas taking advantage of the game’s “Snake physics”. Whether exploring the high mountain tops or briny depths of Haven Tor, there is always something worth finding.
Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 + 2.5 ReMix – PS4 – March 28
While it seems we get further and further from any concrete releases date for Kingdom Hearts III, Square-Enix isn’t content to let the Kingdom Hearts series languish. In not unexpected move, the publisher announced the first two compilations for the series, originally released on PlayStation 3, would come to PlayStation 4 following the final prologue.
Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 + 2.5 Remix is a neat package combining six entries for the series on one disc. The collection includes Kingdom Hearts Final Mix, Kingdom Hearts RE: Chain of Memories, HD remastered cinematics for Kingdom Hearts 358/2, Kingdom Hearts 2 Final Mix, Kingdom Hearts Birth By Sleep Final Mix, and HD cinematics from Kingdom Hearts RE:coded.
Now it is possible to play the entire Kingdom Hearts saga on PS4.
