Christmas is only a week away. Now is the time to get out there and start grabbing those last minute gifts and deals. Naturally with a major holiday coming up, the new releases are a bit of slim pickings. However, there are a handful of games worth giving a look this week.
This week’s new releases include the latest episode in the new King’s Quest with Chapter II: Rubble Without a Cause, and a handful of remakes and ports with Hatoful Boyfriend: Holiday Star, TowerFall: Ascension, and Minecraft: Wii U Edition.
King’s Quest – Chapter II: Rubble Without a Cause – PS4, Xbox One, PS3, Xbox 360, PC – December 15
“Rubble Without a Cause” shows King Graham taking on his first test as the ruler of Daventry. A horde of goblins have taken the kingdom hostage, and the inexperienced king must muster up the fortitude and cunning to free his kingdom and prove his worth to his subjects. It won’t be easy, but King Graham and his friends will need to be strong and clever to stop these dastardly goblins.
Hatoful Boyfriend: Holiday Star – PC – December 15
Everyone’s favorite avian dating-sim returns with Hatoful Boyfriend: Holiday Star. The feathered casts of Hatoful Boyfriend travel to fantastically styled worlds, meet new love interests, and find romance for the holidays. Also there is a good deal of the insane like lab-grown birds stealing Christmas and the mysterious King of the Holiday Star. Many fan favorite characters return along with new characters in this Hatoful Boyfriend sequel.
Hatoful Boyfriend: Holiday Star is a remake of the original Holiday Star. The remake obvious has an HD upgrade with new hand drawn scenery and gorgeous watercolors bringing the world to life. Outside of the main episodes, players can check out side stories and Ryouta’s radio show. The PS4 and PS Vita versions will launch next week on December 22.
TowerFall: Ascension – PS Vita – December 15
The well regarded local multiplayer experience TowerFall: Ascension and its Dark World expansion are coming to PS Vita this week. PS4 owners who purchased TowerFall: Ascension or its Dark World DLC will be able to download the Vita versions for free thanks to cross-buy. Cross-buy also means anyone buying the game or DLC this week will get both versions for the price of one ($14.99 for the main game and $9.99 for the DLC). While the launch version won’t support cross-save, it will be patched in shortly.
TowerFall on PS Vita will be perfect for trying out the single-player challenges and aspects on the go. The game will still support local multiplayer battles. Instead of sitting on the couch with a bunch of controllers, Vita owners can use the ad hoc wireless to sit on a couch with others and their Vitas battling it out with arrows.
Minecraft – Wii U – December 17
The hit sensation is coming to Nintendo’s Wii U this week. Minecraft: Wii U Edition will come with a number of popular content packs: Battle & Beasts 1 & 2 Skin Packs, Natural Texture Pack, City Texture Pack, Fantasy Texture Pack, and the Festive Mash-up Pack. The Wii U version will feature off-TV play allowing players to continuing playing the game on the Wii U GamePad when another member wants to watch TV.
Additionally, players can buy 16 add-on packs from the eShop at launch with Skin Packs including series like The Simpsons, Doctor Who, Star Wars, Mass Effect, and Skyrim. While the launch won’t feature Nintendo collaborative DLC for the game, Minecraft fans can look forward to Nintendo themed Minecraft content in the future. Nintendo and Mojang are working together to develop Nintendo based content for the game.
