New Releases: Week of 11/2

November has finally dawned. It brings with it a storm of highly anticipated games that we’re all eager to play. However, it is the first week of November and none of that means anything because Call of Duty is coming out. That’s right… It is Call of Duty week! The newest addition to the series, Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare launches so soon you can taste the multiplayers. While big games always avoid the huge shadow Call of Duty casts, indie titles don’t care. Also coming out this week are The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth and The Wolf Among Us.
Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare – PS4, Xbox One, PS3, Xbox 360, PC – November 3
In the far flung future of 2054, advanced war has changed. The KVA, a futuristic terrorist organization, perpetrates a global terrorist attack by destroying nuclear reactors across the globe. This cripples many developed countries’ infrastructures and leaves their military in shambles. In a decidedly Guns of the Patriot move, Private Military Corporations rise to prominence as a means for countries to protect themselves against the threat of the KVA. The chief among these PMCs is the Atlas Corporation, and its CEO, Jonathan Irons starts a war against the spread of democracy.
Advanced Warfare is the first Call of Duty from Sledgehammer Games. The game gets rid of the HUD rather relaying information from holograms directly from equipped weapons. It also adds some other new elements like being able to switch between grenades while holding one, and ammo regenerating guns. Players also have a choice between using conventional weaponry or laser/energy based guns. But really, we’re all here to swoon over digital Kevin Spacey.
The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth – PS4, PS Vita, PC, Mac, Linux – November 4
The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth is a rogue-like taking inspiration from both The Legend of Zelda series and the Biblical story of Isaac. Rebirth is a remake of the original game released back in 2011. It features the same action, adventure and rogue-like gameplay elements, but with expanded gameplay. Rebirth allows for local two-player co-op as well.
Rebirth will house a new soundtrack from Matthias Bossi and Jon Evans with remixes of music from the original game. The game will have completely overhauled graphics due to creator, Edmund McMillen’s opinion on the original graphics. No longer done in flash, Rebirth will boast new graphics in a 16-bit style. It will also be an expansion of the original game with new playable characters, story, enemies, bosses and items.
The Wolf Among Us – PS4, Xbox One, PS3, Xbox 360, PS Vita – November 4
Bigby Wolf’s job isn’t easy. He is the sheriff of a bunch of exiled fairy tale characters hiding among mundys in New York. It is his duty to keep the peace, but it is made complicated by his troubled past as the big bad wolf. Worse is when something actually goes down, and he needs the cooperation of the community to help crack the case. Sadly that is the issue when a terrible murder is perpetrated in Fabletown. Bigby has to navigate difficult relationships and circumvent bad blood if he hopes to solve this heinous murder.
The Wolf Among Us has been available as a full season, on PC, PS Vita, PS3 and Xbox 360, since July when the final episode released. Now Telltale Games is releasing a retail disc on consoles as they did with both seasons of The Walking Dead. Additionally it doubles as the release for PS4 and Xbox One versions, so now PS4 and Xbone owners can check out Bigby’s adventure.
