Shantae and the Pirate's Curse

Christmas in December is a crazy concept, but it happens…every year actually. Go figure. However, that means we’ve hit the tipping point for 2014’s new releases. After this week there shall be no more (unless a developer squeezes out a surprise next week). This Christmas week gets some port love with Resogun is finally hitting PS3 and PS Vita, and Shantae and the Pirate’s Curse gets a Wii U release.

Resogun – PS3, PS Vita – December 23

It is time to save the last humans again, pilot. So jump into your ship and prepare to gun down enemies in a hail of voxels as you try to save the human race, again. Resogun originally launched alongside the PlayStation 4 to great acclaim. Now it is heading to both the PS3 and PS Vita, with some changes made due to system concerns and limitations. The PS Vita version features ad-hoc co-op, utilizes touch features allowing for fully customizable controls, and you can throw humans with a swipe of the rear touch pad.

The main difference between the PS4 and PS3/PS Vita versions will be the framerate, to ensure the game runs smoothly on these less powerful platforms the framerate is locked at 30 FPS instead of 60. The benefit of this as developer Climax puts it is a smooth and comparable experience to the PS4 version. All version will allow for cross save, so you can continue your progress across all platforms.

Resogun will launch for $14.99 on December 23 as cross buy, so if you have the PS4 version, you get both the PS Vita/PS3 versions (and vice versa in various combinations).

Shantae and the Pirate’s Curse – Wii U – December 25

Shantae is ready to save Sequin Land from an evil curse, again. This time on the Wii U. The brave and savvy half-genie has to make strange bed fellows since she lost her magic. In Shantae and the Pirate’s Curse, she teams up with long time nemesis, Risky Boots to stop the Pirate Master and his curse from swallowing up Sequin Land.

This time around Shantae has to make use of Risky’s lost gear as she explores cursed islands and labyrinths. Even though she no longer has magic at her side, Shantae will prove she is just as formidable with the use of her signature hair whip and Pirate Gear.

The Wii U version includes HD character portraits from IntiCreates (Mega Man developer), off-TV play, Classic Controller Pro and Wii U Pro Controller support, unlockable “Pirate-Mode”, multiple endings, and an original soundtrack by Jake “Virt” Kaufman.

Shantae and the Pirate’s Curse on 3DS earned a spot in Nintendo’s 2014 Fan Favorite list for 3DS. Now Wii U owners can experience Shantae’s pirate adventure when it launches on December 25 for $19.99.
