Mugen Souls Reveals Game Details in Two New Trailers

Two new gameplay trailers have been released for the upcoming RPG Mugen Souls. Both offer insight into what kind of depth and customization you can expect when picking up the game next month.
The first trailer shows off some basic features of the game and it’s all about the numbers. Level caps are not only raised by the hundreds for your character, but for your skills and equipment as well. When a character gets strong enough it can be capable of doing damage in the hundreds of thousands.
While leveling up characters is standard fare in an RPG game, there is one feature in Mugen Souls that is really eye-catching. The game actually gives you the option of putting limitations on the battles you fight. Applying restrictions like no special skills or healing powers might make battles more difficult but will give bonus multipliers that reward even more Mugen points (the game’s leveling up currency) or experience. There’s even a system that keeps track of your personal stats — which is something a lot of gamers think every game like this should have as a standard feature. Statistics such as how many battles have been fought, longest combo, or the highest damage dished out (which in the trailer is a massive 18 billion) are all visible.
The second trailer focuses on the various ways that characters can be customized. From outfits to hair, there looks to be endless ways in which you can not only change the appearance of the main character but create a unique character that fits your personal taste. The trailer hints at job classes such as support roles and ones that specialize in certain weapons but doesn’t reveal too much. However, with each new job class that is unlocked comes more outfit options and each article of clothing adds stat bonuses. If you want a character that fights in underwear and a top hat and wields a gun twice their size then you can certainly do that. It isn’t too often where you find an RPG that allows you to customize characters beyond a few rotating pieces of equipment. With Mugen Souls the character you play with is the one you create.
Mugen Souls tells the story of a small galaxy containing seven colorful worlds. These worlds exist independently of each other until one day the “Undisputed Goddess” Chou-Chou declares that she will make everything in the seven worlds bow down to her. The game features turn-based combat, a free-roaming battle map, and, if those two videos are any indication, an overwhelming amount of content and customization.
Mugen Souls is developed by Compile Heart (makers of the Record of Agarest War and Hyperdimension Neptunia series) and published by NIS America (Atelier and Disgaea series). The game will be released September 18 exclusively for the Playstation 3.
