[adsense250itp]EA announced the company will be returning to the Mirror’s Edge franchise with a new installment coming to next-generation consoles.
A trailer shown during the EA press conference at E3 unveiled the second game in the Mirror’s Edge franchise. The original Mirror’s Edge released for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in 2008 with a PC version releasing a few months later.
The one-minute-long trailer is a brief nod to fans of the series who have been asking for the return of the franchise.
Mirror’s Edge was a stunning first-person parkour experience with an emphasis on how quickly players could complete their actions. The game focused lightly on actual combat but delivered impressive visuals and a refreshing take on first-person gaming.
The Mirror’s Edge saga was originally planned as a trilogy but it failed to reach the projected goal of 3 million copies sold and any plans to continue the franchise were put on hold. However, fans of the franchise have been clamoring for a sequel to the franchise since and EA finally decided to revive the franchise with a prequel for next-gen consoles.
Developer DICE is creating the new Mirror’s Edge title as a prequel to the original release. Gamers will once again take control of main character Faith in a dystopian society before the events of the first game. The new Mirror’s Edge will take place in a fully open world with stunning graphics.
A company credited most for their award winning Frostbite game engine, DICE has experienced tons of success recently. The first-person military shooter Battlefield 3, which released in 2011, received several awards from media publications including Best Shooter and Best Multiplayer.
The Mirror’s Edge prequel has been confirmed for release on PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4. According to the trailer, the new Mirror’s Edge game will release “when it’s ready.” The trailer can be viewed below.
