New Game Releases: Week of July 29th to August 4th
This upcoming week’s video game releases have something for everyone: Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance, Deadlight: a side-scrolling apocalyptic adventure, the release of Grand Theft Auto III on PS3, pirate-tastic Risen 2: Dark Waters and Orcs Must Die! 2.
Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance – 3DS
To celebrate the tenth anniversary of the Kingdom Hearts franchise, Square Enix presents Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance. When a threat looms on the horizon, Sora and Riku are sent into the depths of the Sleeping Worlds to complete their Mark of Mastery exam. Providing some of the most beautiful graphics on the 3DS to date, as well as the introduction of slow-mo combat that enables the player to do so much more, the newest installment to the Kingdom Hearts franchise is clearly one of the most anticipated releases of the near future. Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance is scheduled for release on Nintendo 3DS on July 31st.Deadlight – XBLA
Set in the decaying remains of a long abandoned city, Deadlight is an unusual take on the apocalyptic genre. With 2D environments, side-scrolling gameplay, and a dash of fast paced combat thrown in, Deadlight offers a number of ways to kill zombies and progress towards your next goal. Deadlight is scheduled for release on Xbox Live Arcade on August 1st.
Grand Theft Auto III – PSN
Fans of the Grand Theft Auto series will be excited to hear that Grand Theft Auto III will be making its debut on Playstation 3 fairly soon. Hailing from the classic Playstation 2 days, Grand Theft Auto III was groundbreaking for its time, what with the utilization of a 3D city populated by all different kinds of characters as well as truly non-linear gameplay. Grand Theft Auto III is scheduled for release on the Playstation Network on July 31st.
Risen 2: Dark Waters – Xbox 360/PS3
Acting as a sequel to the first Risen game, Risen 2: Dark Waters is set in a world where the threat of utter annihilation has come raining down on the heads of humankind. Acting as a kind of inquisitor, the player must journey to the pirates of the southern seas to discover if they know the way to reverse this ongoing tragedy. Filled with dynamic ways to complete quests as well as possessing a world that is gradually shaped by the player’s choices, Risen 2: Dark Waters is scheduled for release on Xbox 360 and PS3 on July 31st.
Orcs Must Die! 2 – PC
Offering a reinvented and wider variety of ways to kill off enemies, Orcs Must Die! 2 picks up where the first game left off. With most of the magical order dead, the war mage must now pitch himself against a whole new set of orc mobs. Orcs Must Die! 2 is scheduled for release on PC July 30th.
