If you ever wondered what NBA 2K would look like if it was a third-person open-world game, 2K’s unveiling of The Neighborhood for NBA 2K18 will probably have you extremely excited.
The new mode for this year’s version of NBA 2K combines elements from MyPARK, Pro-Am and MyCAREER to create a living world where players are free to compete and socialize with other NBA 2K18 players and buy in-game goods.
The Neighborhood will span several city blocks and feature playground parks, Foot Locker, tattoo parlors, a club-like venue and more. Not only will players be free to interact with other MyPlayers but they will also encounter familiar non-playable characters. For instance, you may run into cover athlete Kyrie Irving at the local barbershop.
Players will be able to navigate the streets of The Neighborhood on foot, on bike or on a skateboard, according to the trailer.
As part of The Neighborhood, 2K revealed the Road to 99, a meta-game that spans across all MyPlayer game modes. Players are rewarded with badges, attributes and animations as they improve the overall rating of their MyPlayer in an effort to reach the illustrious 99 overall rating.
NBA 2K18 is set to launch Sept. 19 for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, Xbox 360, PC and Nintendo Switch.
