NBA 2K17 The Prelude Playable Demo Releases Sept. 9

NBA 2K17 is set to launch Sept. 20, but players will be able to get an early start on their career modes with a demo called NBA 2K17 The Prelude that will launch Sept. 9.
The Prelude is a free downloadable demo that features the start of MyCareer. Along with an app that releases Sept. 8 that will allow players to scan their faces into the game, players will be able to create their character in The Prelude.
A trailer for the demo, which can be viewed below, shows the new customization system in NBA 2K17 MyCareer. The trailer refers to it as “the ultimate sports RPG.”
While creating your character, players will choose their stats as usual, along with their preferred play style. In The Prelude, you will begin your journey right before national signing day. Players will be able to choose to join one of 10 college teams: Arizona, Kansas, Louisville, Michigan State, Illinois, Georgetown, Georgia Tech, Oklahoma, Wake Forest, and UCONN.
Players experience their freshman season, all the way to the National Championship. The goal is to improve your stock as a prospect so you can drafted by an NBA team.
Spike Lee’s “Livin’ Da Dream” is not part of NBA 2K17’s RPG mode, but the trailer for The Prelude hints at some behind-the-scenes moments and decisions that will affect MyCareer. The main character is seen interacting with a college coach played by actor Matt Walsh (Veep, The Hangover) and getting a phone call from U.S. Men’s National Team coach Mike Krzyzewski (maybe you’ll get to represent Team USA in the career mode this year).
College Hoops 2K17
NBA 2K17 will feature 10 college teams, a step up from 2K16, although some of the programs included last year did not make it to this year’s game. This is as close to a college hoops basketball game as you’re going to get anytime soon, but this isn’t the only way NBA 2K17 is incorporating these 10 programs.
Each of the 10 teams will have a roster made up of all-time greats available in the game’s Play Now mode. Current college players will not appear in the game. It also does not appear that these teams will be available in other modes, but players will at least be able to use them against friends and experience the college atmosphere.
Additionally, the game’s MyTeam card-collecting mode will feature cards with college versions individual players from these all-time rosters. These cards are likely to be players already found in the game, either current NBA players or NBA legends included on throwback teams.
The Prelude will also include 2KU, a tutorial mode featuring instruction from coach Krzyzewski.
