Moon Hunters Exceeds Kickstarter Funding

Moon Hunters

Kitfox Games successfully raised the funding for Moon Hunters. The Moon Hunters Kickstarter has more than doubled its initial funding goal ensuring it will launch on PC, Mac and PS4.

The game received its funding in less than two days of Kitfox starting the Kickstarter campaign. Now it has raised over 22 percent of funding with 110,000 CAD. The amount has allowed Kitfox to develop a PS4 version (launching after PC, Mac), add a new faction, a new playable class, online multiplayer (PC and Mac), and a new cooking module to the game.

The campaign has two weeks to go, so the game will hit more stretch goal before the funding period closes. The next stretch goal is for a PS Vita single-player version of Moon Hunters and the campaign is within reach of this goal.

“The past couple of weeks have been really amazing, and all of us at Kitfox would like to thank the community for their support,” said Tanya Short, lead designer on Moon Hunters. “It’s been pretty overwhelming, but we’re super-excited we can afford to work on our dream game!”

Moon Hunters is a RPG set in ancient, procedural world based around myth. 1-4 players set out to solve the mystery of the Moon’s disappearance after it fails to appear as normal. The heroes’ choices and reputations shape their legend they will be remembered for. Kitfox describes it as an “artisanal” blend of The Legend of Zelda, The Yawhg and Castle Crashers.

The game was part of the Square Enix Collective. With a strong showing on Moon Hunters, Square Enix Collective announced the next Kickstarter campaign will be Black the Fall. That Kickstarter will launch in the next few weeks.

Quick Take

Moon Hunters looks fantastic and it is very exciting that Kitfox can bring the project to fruition. Doubly exciting is the funding got secured for a PS4 version and likely will hit a PS Vita version (cross-buy, cross-save please). The game looks gorgeous and it will be interesting to see what heights the project can aim for once funding is finished.
