Fans of Minecraft are in for something new in 2015. Mojang and Telltale Games are partnering for Minecraft: Story Mode – A Telltale Games Series.
The game will tell a narrative-driven, episodic story set in the Minecraft world, and will feature new characters and familiar themes. The series will take cues from Minecraft while aiming to create an original experience in its own right.
Telltale Games, Mojang, and members of the Minecraft community are collaborating on development of the game. The parternership gives Mojang an opportunity to tell stories in the Minecraft world without dilluting the freedom of the core game.
“Minecraft is a world of infinite possibility and imagination. Working with the Mojang team on our own unique, story-driven interpretation of their fascinating universe is a tremendous honor,” said Kevin Bruner, President and Co-Founder of Telltale Games, in a press release. “We simply cannot wait for fans across the world to take off with us on this new adventure.”
Minecraft: Story Mode is expected to launch in 2015 for Xbox One, Xbox 360, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, PC, Mac, iOS and Android.
Despite launching two new series to close out 2014, Telltale will keep its plate full in 2015. Juggling three different series with Minecraft: Story Mode, Game of Thrones and Tales From the Borderlands is going to be a feat. Telltale has a huge opportunity working to bring a story-driven adventure to the massive Minecraft following. It will be exciting to see how everyone involved crafts a narrative around the Minecraft world, and how an original experience translates from the core experience.
