EA officially announced the next installment of the Mirror’s Edge franchise will be titled Mirror’s Edge Catalyst.
The official Mirror’s Edge website was updated with a post from the game’s senior producer, Sara Jansson. In the post, Jansson said Mirror’s Edge Catalyst will not be a sequel to the 2008 title, another hint that the game could be a prequel to the original.
“We have landed on a vision that honors the first game — pushing the boundaries of first person movement and diving deeper into the story behind our heroine Faith — but also brings a lot of great new, interesting gameplay and features to the experience for our players,” Jansson said.
Developed by EA studio DICE, Mirror’s Edge Catalyst is expected to release this fiscal year, which ends March 31, 2016. More details about the game are expected to be revealed at E3 2015.
EA teased a new Mirror’s Edge at E3 two years ago, and at E3 last year, it was hinted that the game would not be a sequel, but instead follow a younger version of main character Faith. It appears EA is finally ready to show significant footage of the new Mirror’s Edge, and E3 couldn’t come quicker.
