The first images and details have finally emerged regarding the highly anticipated Avatar mod for the widely successful Minecraft, created by Markus Persson. The mod is based off the 2009 James Cameron film.
Fans can expect a wide variety of new in-game features including new structures like Hometrees and RDA Bases, mobs like Banshees and Dire Horses, and a huge variety of new block items including Pandoran dirt, wood, sharpened rock, Unobtanium ore and Pandoran grass as well as a new assortment of weapons including throwing spears, war knives and Na’vi bows to name a few.
These are just a sample of the wide array of new elements that await Minecraft players who download the Avatar mod upon its release, set for next year. Players will require the latest 1.4 update to run the mod, which is currently available to download at no charge.
Minecraft has given players the ability to completely create and manipulate their own world through the power of the pixel, with fans creating mods that cover anything and everything. Modding is beginning to take center stage in the gaming industry and evolve into a form that is taken more seriously by both fans and developers. Products such as the Kickstarter-based Ouya console and CD Projekt RED’s REDkit are helping pave the way for a more customizable way of life for gamers around the world.
Minecraft continues to grow as one of the most popular indie games on the market and is showing no signs of stopping anytime soon. Fans can look forward to diving into a pixellated Pandora when the mod becomes available sometime next year.
