Microsoft and Scuf Gaming Teaming Up for Xbox

Scuf Gaming announced a partnership with Microsoft that will make Scuf the exclusive third-party accessories partner for the Xbox One Elite Controller.
Under the licensing agreement, Scuf will also license its technology to Microsoft. The company will get access to Scuf’s intellectual property, patents and innovations, according to a press release.
“SCUF continues to improve the way gamers use a controller, reducing hand strain and enhancing the gameplay experience,” Xbox head Phil Spencer said in the press release. “We are pleased to work with SCUF to bring this project to the masses.”
The Xbox One Elite Controller is expected to release Oct. 27. At E3 2015, Gaming Illustrated dubbed the new controller as one of the best in show.
While this agreement could introduce the Xbox One’s audience to Scuf, the advantage for Microsoft is unclear. The Elite controller was essentially a first-party competitor to Scuf’s Infinity1, but it now it seems like it would’ve made more sense to release an Xbox-branded Scuf controller. Maybe something will be in store in the future under this partnership.
