Metal Gear Survive Announced by Konami

Konami announced Metal Gear Survive, a new game set in the Metal Gear universe, will release in 2017.
The game will blend the renowned stealth mechanics of the Metal Gear franchise with gameplay built around four player online co-op gameplay.
Metal Gear Survive takes place right after the ending of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain’s prologue, Ground Zeroes. Soldiers left at Mother Base before it was attacked during the events of Ground Zeroes have been transported to an alternate universe through wormholes. In this unfamiliar wasteland, players will have to survive against zombie-like “biological threats” and potentially other Metal Gears.
Big Boss and Kaz Miller appear in the game’s trailer but Konami isn’t saying what characters from the Metal Gear franchise might pop up in Metal Gear Survive.
Whether or not creator Hideo Kojima or any members of Kojima Productions worked on Survive is unknown.
Metal Gear Survive will release for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
Quick Take
Metal Gear Survive looks … different. While Kojima’s universe was always full of outlandish characters and events, Survive’s trailer shows little of Metal Gear’s spirit. Konami’s foray into survival co-op is very reminiscent of Umbrella Corps. Capcom’s use of the Resident Evil name to push a multiplayer-focused game was met with disdain by fans and critics. Will Survive be a similar sour spot, further damaging gamers’ perception of Konami?
