[adsense250itp]Mega Man creator Keiji Inafune launched a Kickstarter campaign for his latest project, The Mighty No. 9.
The Mighty No. 9 is a side-scrolling action title based on the classic 8-bit and 16-bit Japanese titles of the past but mixed with modern technology, better gameplay mechanics and more colorful animations.
Players will take on the role of the Beck, the latest in a line of powerful robots known as the Mighty Numbers. A mysterious computer virus has taken over all mechanized creatures except for Beck, who must protect the world.
In classic side-scrolling form, players will run, jump, fight and transform their way through six stages, although more could be added if stretch goals are reached through the Kickstarter campaign. Levels can be played in any order, taking advantage of Beck’s ability to steal weapons and powers from enemies. Beck can also transform his limbs into useful tools such as magnets or tank treads to get through levels.
Development alumni from the Mega Man franchise are working with Inafune in creating the game. Level designer Nayoa Tomita and composer Manami Matsumae each worked on the original Mega Man. Shinsuke Komaki did character design work on Mega Man Legends. Mega Man 9 and 10 developer Inti Creates is also working on The Mighty No. 9.
The Kickstarter campaign for The Mighty No. 9 is seeking to raise $900,000 within 30 days. Most of that goal was reached on the first day the campaign launched.
The Mighty No. 9 is expected to reach its funding goal and it will release on PC sometime in Spring 2015. It is being planned to launch on Steam and other DRM-free digital distribution methods. If the funding campaign reaches $1.35 million, the game will also be developed for Mac and Linux. A version of the game for Xbox 360, Wii U and PlayStation 3 will be launched if the campaign reaches $2.5 million.
