BioWare announced the Mass Effect Andromeda release date will be March 21 in North America and March 23 in Europe.
Aaryn Flynn, general manager of BioWare, revealed the news in a blog post on the Mass Effect website. In the post, Flynn thanked fans of the series for their patience, referring to the lack of a solid release date despite increasingly long looks at the game since E3 2016.
“Mass Effect Andromeda is our most ambitious Mass Effect game to date,” said Flynn. “We’re telling completely new stories, creating new characters, new planets, new species, and introducing new gameplay systems… To deliver on this, we’re taking all the time we can to make sure you’re getting the best possible experience.”
Over the holidays several developers at BioWare, including ones who had key roles in the original Mass Effect games, took home a playable version of Andromeda. After spending time with the game and returning from the break with positive feedback, the team decided to solidify a release date.
EA gave gamers a brief look at Mass Effect Andromeda during its EA Play event during E3 2016. At last fall’s PlayStation Meeting, where the PlayStation Pro was revealed, a minutes-long glimpse at the graphics was shown. The 2016 Game Awards offered nearly five minutes worth of gameplay and other details about how Andromeda would play.
At Nvidia’s CES 2017 keynote, the game will be shown off again, most likely to demonstrate how it will look on the company’s high-end graphics cards.
Mass Effect Andromeda will be available for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
