Mass Effect 4 Hero’s Name Teased

/ Nov 17th, 2015 No Comments

Mass Effect 4‘s protagonist’s name may have been revealed if some careful observation and sleuthing by fans is to be believed.

Mass Effect: Andromeda is the fourth entry in EA and Bioware’s popular franchise and the first not to include Commander Shepard as the main protagonist.

Andromeda was first revealed with a new trailer at E3 2015. Since then, details on the game have been sparse. So it makes sense that fans have picked apart a trailer released for Mass Effect’s annual N7 Day. At the 0:44 mark, Earth can be seen from the cockpit of an unknown spaceship. Right before the spaceship warps out of the Andromeda galaxy, a dogtag can be seen on the far left of the dashboard. On the right side a photograph can be seen of an adult with their arms around what looks to be two children.

RIDER/RYDER can just be made out on the dogtag.

Reddit users pointed out that the dogtag says either RYDER or RIDER, giving us a good assumption of who our next Mass Effect protagonist could be. This could be a reference to Sally Ride, the first American woman in space. It’s a logical theory since Commander Shepard was named after Alan Shepard, the first American man in space. It’s also been pointed out that the music used in the E3 trailer was Johnny Cash’s version of “Ghost Riders in the Sky” and providing another logical thread to the assumptions.

Mass Effect 4 is set to release in the holiday of 2016 for PS4, Xbox One, and PC.

Quick Take

Who knows when we will have more substantial information on Mass Effect 4. How does “Andromeda” apply to the fourth entry? Will players explore the galaxy as this Ryder or Rider? These smalls clues are hard to ignore, especially because they exist in official trailers and teasers. Until then, expect the tiniest bits of information to be picked apart for truth.
