March On Oz

March On Oz was announced today by City State Entertainment, touting the new title to be an RTS-style road defense game. The game will initially be released for the iPad 2 and iPad 3 devices and eventually will move to PC, Android and other platforms later this year. The game is said to offer over 50 levels with two difficulty types and also sports mini-games, a full musical score and over 50 3D models and effects. March on Oz is self-touted as a “AAA” game minus the price tag and will offer updates, add-ons and other downloadable content through various distribution platforms.

Mark Jacobs, the co-founder and former CEO of Mythic Entertainment is one of the big names behind City State Entertainment, located in Farifax, Virginia. Jacobs serves as the company’s President as well as fulfilling the role of Creative Director. He publically stated that when he started up the new company if felt as if he was back in the year 1995 and starting up Mythic, which produced big titles such as Dark Age of Camelot, Imperator Online and Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning.

This time around for Jacobs and his crew, March On Oz represents two years of development according to Jacobs’ own blog on the City State Entertainment website. He hoped to reimagine the land of Oz and put a brand new spin on a much beloved world. The game aims to present a unique artistic vision of Oz and something the folks at CSE say they are quite proud of. Jacobs concludes his entry by stating he hopes that March On Oz will be the precursor to many adventures within the Oz universe.

On the company website there’s not much more to read about but there is a boat load of concept art, all available for download. Given the first viewings of the concept art, it looks like CSE is hoping to really push the boundaries of the iOS platform for the iPad 2 and iPad 3 and even what we might see for a PC title.
