Madden 25 will not be available for Wii U, according to a statement from EA Sports provided to Nintendo World Report.
The company announced there will be no version of the Madden NFL franchise releasing in 2013 for the Nintendo console.
EA Sports stated the company has a strong partnership with Nintendo and expects to evaluate opportunities for future content on Nintendo consoles.
[adsense250itp]This would mark the first time EA has not released a Madden game on Nintendo’s major console since 1991. John Madden Football 92 released in 1991 exclusively for the Sega Mega Drive/Genesis.
Madden NFL Football released on the 3DS in 2011 but the franchise has since abandoned Nintendo’s handheld system.
The Madden franchise is the latest third-party game to ditch Nintendo’s console. Activision announced Call of Duty: Ghosts on Wednesday with no mention of a release for Wii U.
Last week, EA Sports announced Hall of Fame running back Barry Sanders will be gracing the cover of Madden 25 after winning a fan voting tournament.
Madden 25 is set to release Aug. 27 for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. It is also expected to be available for next-generation consoles although no announcement has been made regarding a next-gen version of the game.
