Life is Strange

Square Enix announced Life is Strange, a new IP from developer DONTNOD Entertainment.

[adsense250itp]Life is Strange will be an episodic digital title for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC. Each episode in Life is Strange will build on choices players make in previous episodes.

The episodic gameplay and narrative is a departure for Square Enix.

The game follows main character Max Cauflield’s return home to Oregon after a five-year absence. Max discovers Rachel Amber has disappeared mysteriously under uncomfortable circumstances. In trying to figure out what happened to Rachel, Max runs into her old friend Chole. The two find out that Max can rewind time.

Square Enix is showing off Life is Strange at Gamescom 2014. More details of the game are expected to emerge during the event.

Quick Take

The episodic nature of Life is Strange points toward an adventure style game similar to titles from Telltale Games. Life is Strange seems like an interesting departure from the Square Enix formula and shows a willingness to change course.
