League of Legends

What a long strange trip it’s been. Season 2 has given the League of Legends (LoL) community its share of excitement and drama.

League of Legends (LoL) World Championships

Now everything has boiled down into one final match. Taiwanese team Taipei Assassins (TPA) and Korean team Azubu Frost (AZF) put everything on the line for a $1 million prize. Which team came out on top? Newcomers Taipei Assassins or the menacing Azubu Frost?

Game 1

Game 1 definitely set the stage for the entire set. Both teams realized how important Karthus was and how badly they needed him on their team. TPA got off to a strong start, however AZF won a team fight over dragon resulting in RapidStar(Karthus) scoring a quadra kill. From there AZF was able to press their lead and win out over TPA in Game 1.

Game 2

With one game against them everybody expected TPA to crumble under the pressure. However TPA was able to score Karthus for themselves which put them at a huge advantage. Like AZF did in the first game, TPA was able to take the game to late game and use Karthus to their advantage. After winning several team fights, TPA was able to edge out a win against AZF putting the set at 1:1.

Game 3

From champion select it seemed as though AZF was playing poorly. They left Orianna open allowing ToyZ to pick up his beloved main. From the get-go it looked like TPA could not be stopped. Each lane was doing exceptionally well, and Mundo (Lilballz) was doing a great job at pressuring each lane. TPA was able to secure a massive lead and press their advantage, forcing AZF to surrender at the very early 22 minute mark. TPA now leads 2:1.

Game 4

This game started off on the same foot as Game 3. AZF let ToyZ pick up Orianna again giving them a huge advantage from the start. AZF started off with an invade attempt which blew up in their face giving Orianna (ToyZ) first blood and Ezreal (Bebe) an early second kill. From here TPA gradually built their lead over AZF. AZF held on valiantly but ultimately fell after one of the most exciting games of the series. TPA won the series with a score of 3:1.

TPA was a team nobody expected to make it to the finals, let alone win. They took the world by storm and were able to secure the coveted $1 million prize pool. With Season 2 coming to a close, Riot has definitely set the bar high for Season 3. However, if the World Championship is any indication, Riot is capable of organizing incredible and exciting tournaments. Season 3 should be the most interesting season in E-Sports history.
