Laser League, the futuristic sport from developer Roll7, is releasing on May 10 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC via Steam.
The game first released on Steam Early Access earlier this year and will fully launch on the platform along with the console versions.
Roll7 made a big splash in 2013 with its impressive skateboarding game OlliOlli. The developer followed up with OlliOlli2: Welcome to Olliwood and 2D shooter Not a Hero in 2015. Laser League follows in the same high-speed footsteps of Roll7’s catalog by offering a game with mechanics that are easy to grasp but become more rewarding with mastery.
Laser League is set in the year 2150 where the titular contact sport sees players fighting to gain control of nodes that cover the arena in deadly lasers. Teams touch nodes to turn the lasers into their color while evading the colored beams of their rivals. There are multiple classes to choose from, each with unique abilities. Each arena features different patters of lasers and new power-ups will be dropped that can drastically change the flow of a match.
“Early Access has allowed us to get feedback from players and focus on the priorities,” said Simon Bennett, studio director at Roll7. “We have worked on bringing new players to the community and delivering new and exciting content. Leaving Early Access is the culmination of a development process that started many years ago and it allows us to get Laser League into the hands of more players, across multiple platforms, so we can answer the call to grow our community.”
At launch, Laser League will feature six unique classes: Blade, Smash, Thief, Ghost, Shock, and Snipe; 16 maps with unique laser patterns; 15 power-ups that alter both maps and gameplay; 12 modifier effects allowing players to tailor gameplay to their playstyle; 4 international stadiums; and more than 250 unique character customization options.
Steam players will see an additional seven maps, two stadiums, six modifiers, and two new power-ups. Publisher 505 Games and Roll7 are also launching the NewMotion Brand DLC, which includes two new player models, eight kits, exclusive laser patterns, emojis, and character portraits for $1.99. The NewMotion Brand DLC will be available for consoles later in May.
505 Games and Roll 7 are also introducing promotions on each platform to celebrate Laser League’s launch. PlayStation Plus members who pre-order the game will receive a PS4 theme and 20% off, Xbox Players will get the game for free if they are Gamepass Members, and on Steam the game will be discounted by 40 percent from May 10-16.
