Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes

Hideo Kojima and Kojima Productions celebrated the release of Sony’s PlayStation 4 by releasing extended gameplay footage for Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes. To top off the footage taking advantage of the next-gen tech, Kojima Productions released a trailer for a mission exclusive to the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 versions of Ground Zeroes.

The new gameplay footage captured from the PlayStation 4 gives gamers a taste of a daytime “Side Ops” mission. The video sees Big Boss infiltrating a military outpost to retrieve information from a double agent. In the demo, fans get a taste of new gameplay mechanics, the time of day cycle, weather conditions, improved AI and the high quality graphics the FOX Engine is capable of using the power of the PS4.

[adsense250itp]During the demo, players get a look at the return of Consecutive CQC. Consecutive CQC works just like in Peace Walker, where Big Boss can take out grouped together enemies one after another. The demo also revealed a new CQC move allows Snake to steal an enemy’s weapon and use it against them in one quick motion. Other interesting new features shown in the video are the reflex mode. Reflex mode slows down time to allow players time to react when first spotted by an enemy. The mode can be turned off if players don’t wish to use it.

The new video shows off the different ways to complete a mission in Ground Zeroes. When enemies shoot down the rescue chopper, the mission is not over. The player has other options to complete the mission. In the video’s particular mission, all Snake has to do to complete his mission is to escape the base with the cassette tape. The video demonstrates the flexibility that players posses when completing missions in Ground Zeroes.

In addition to the new gameplay footage, Kojima revealed that PS3 and PS4 owners get an exclusive mission for Ground Zeroes entitled, “Déjà Vu”. The mission is a “throwback” that recreates a mission from Metal Gear Solid and gives players a chance to control Solid Snake (in his wonderful PS1 polygonal glory) in the high definition world of Ground Zeroes.

Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes is the prologue to the full Metal Gear Solid V experience in The Phantom Pain. Ground Zeroes prepares fans for the new direction and gameplay style of the The Phantom Pain, which releases at a later date than Ground Zeroes. As seen in the new video, Ground Zeroes branches off the main storyline of the game into various “Side Ops” allowing players to encounter missions and objective independent of the main story.

Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes will be available in Spring 2014 on PS3, Xbox 360, PS4 and Xbox One. The PS3 and Xbox 360 versions features both a retail and digital version (at $29.99 and $19.99 respectively), while PS4 and Xbox One version is digital only for $29.99. The “Déjà Vu” mission is only available on PS3 and PS4 version of the game.
