Just Cause 3 is expected to release for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC in 2015, Square Enix and developer Avalanche Studios announced.
The game, which features extreme stunts and gunfights, will come five years after its predecessor, Just Cause 2.
“We’ve been waiting for this moment ever since Just Cause 2 was released,” Chief Creative Officer at Avalanche Studios Christofer Sundberg said in a press release. “This is the culmination of a decade’s worth of open-world evolution and innovation.”
Main character, Rico, will be back for more in Just Cause 3, this time exploring a Mediterranean archipelago. Of course, he will be bringing his trusty parachute and grapple along, and both will have improved mechanics. Just Cause 3 will also give players access to a new wingsuit.
Franchises that are dormant for five years rarely are revisited, but Just Cause represents a special case. In the years since Just Cause 2 debuted, hours of YouTube videos displaying the insane, heart-pumping action players can create in the game has kept fan interest alive. With the power of new-gen consoles, expect fans to take their Just Cause videos to new heights.
