Games with Gold July

Games with Gold expanded to both Microsoft consoles last month. Now Xbox One and Xbox 360 subscribers to Xbox Live Gold enjoy two free games a month. While Xbox 360 owners have had Games with Gold since last E3, Xbox One owners are going through the infancy stages with the program. Luckily, July brings an exciting offering to Xbox One owners’ Games with Gold experience. Xbox One users will see Max: The Curse of Brotherhood holding over, but will get the brand new release, Guacamelee! Super Turbo Championship Edition. On the other side, Xbox 360 subscribers are getting Gotham City Imposters and Battleblock Theater in July.

Guacamelee! Super Turbo Championship Edition – Xbox One

The hot new jam out from Drinkbox Studios, Guacamelee! Super Turbo Championship Edition will be available for free to Xbox Gold Subscribers on Xbox One. Guacamelee! Super Turbo Championship Edition is a fast-paced action-platformer drawing inspiration from the classic Metroidvania series of games.

Juan Aguacate is a simple Agave farmer. He gets roped into a crazy adventure after offering to help set-up for an upcoming festival. He is murdered by the evil Carlos Calaca and returns to the World of the Living as a powerful luchador. It features a colorful and beautiful take on Mexico with two different versions of in its World of the Living and Land of the Dead.

Guacamelee! Super Turbo Championship Edition will be available from July 2-July 31.

Max: The Curse of Brotherhood – Xbox One

When Games with Gold launched on Xbox One it came with Halo: Spartan Assault and Max: The Curse of Brotherhood. The side-scrolling platformer will hold over an extra month. This gives new Xbox One owners a chance to download and play Max: The Curse of Brotherhood, the only interesting aspect of the Xbox One Games with Gold launch.

Max: The Curse of Brotherhood is Press Play’s follow-up to their 2010, Max & The Magic Maker. In Curse of Brotherhood, Max conjures up a spell to make his little brother Felix disappear. Max is successful and a giant claw snatches Felix. Realizing the folly of this act, Max has to enter the magic world to rescue his younger brother.

Max: The Curse of Brotherhood will be available until July 31.

Gotham City Imposters – Xbox 360

Gotham City Imposters is a first-person shooter that is multiplayer only. The game takes place in the DC Comics’ version of Batman. Players join one team dressed as Batman or another teamed dressed as The Joker. Then they try to kill each other in the game’s four different modes: Psych Warfare, Fumigation, Bounty Hunter, and Team Deathmatch.

Gotham City Imposters will be available from July 1-July 15.

Battleblock Theater – Xbox 360

Battleblock Theater is a platformer that players can tackle by themselves or with some buddies co-op. This is the third game from The Behemoth, the developer behind Alien Hominid and Castle Crashers.

Following the crash of their ship on a mysterious island, players find themselves held captive by a group of sadistic cats. They must battle through a series of deadly games to gain their freedom, save Hatty Hattington, and escape their cat overlords.

Battleblock Theater will be available from July 16- July 31.
