Interact with robots in Bot Colony

/ Oct 8th, 2013 No Comments

Bot Colony is a sci-fi adventure game that enables gamers to interact with the game through dialogue, in their own words.

North Side, the developers behind Bot Colony, plan to offer gamers the chance to have realistic verbal conversations with artificially intelligent robots. Gamers are not limited to simple commands but can freely converse with the robot characters about opinions, facts or ask clarification on an issue. Robots can be asked to perform actions and learn new commands.

“I know everyone claims this, but Bot Colony is truly trailblazing a new way of interacting with games,” explains Eugene Joseph, CEO of North Side.  “Every year we see incredible advances in game graphics, sound, physics, etc., but character interaction is still ruled by the pre-defined dialog tree approach we’ve had since the 70s.  The ability for characters in a game to understand what you say and respond in an intelligent way has the potential to change the gaming world.”[adsense250itp]

The episodic adventure game is set in the near future of 2021 where intelligent robots have become the new general laborer. The world leader in robotic technology, Nakagawa Corp. has hired a robot cognition specialist (the player) to track down and locate a spy in the company that has stolen advanced sensors that allow robots to actually smell, taste and touch. It is up to the player to interact with the robots and get them to co-operate with the investigation.

Bot Colony is currently campaigning on KickStarter. A trailer for the game can be viewed below:

Quick Take

Sci-Fi fans should find this particularly interesting for the experience of actually interacting with intelligent robots in a similar way to movies like I, Robot. Gamers who aren’t fans of science fiction can think of Bot Colony as interacting with Apple’s Siri or Google Now, except in a game.
