Horizon Zero Dawn

Sony and Guerilla Games have released a new story trailer for the upcoming Horizon Zero Dawn.

The trailer offers players a larger look into the mysterious futuristic world of Aloy and the robotic creatures she will encounter during her journey.

Horizon Zero Dawn tells the story of a post post-apocalyptic world. Hundreds if not thousands of years have passed since the time when humanity built cities full of towering skyscrapers and advanced technology. Without electricity, nature slowly began to take back it’s place in the world. Humans began living as tribes that were scattered throughout the land, hunting and gathering for supplies using makeshift tools.

In this world, robotic creatures taking on the appearances of common animals appear to be at the top of the food chain. The origins of these robots is a mystery but humans hunt them for resources and try not to become prey to the larger ones.

Guerilla Games has kept its focus on these robotic creatures since the game’s reveal at E3 2015. This new story trailer expands further upon the world of the game, showing players that humans may be an equal threat to Aloy and her people. More characters are introduced, including a villain who is manipulating the robots to spread an ancient corruption to others.

Horizon Zero Dawn releases exclusively for PS4 on Feb. 28, 2017.

Quick Take

This new story trailer is a good direction for Guerilla Games and Sony to take in order to draw more people into Horizon Zero Dawn’s universe. If robotic dinosaurs weren’t enough of a sell to players, then this glimpse at a larger story and deeper lore should entice new interest and solidify others’ commitment towards this new open world IP. Much of the game is still shrouded in mystery but in a little over a month those questions will be answered.
