Sam Fisher. Altair. Ayame and Rikimaru. All familiar but deadly agents for assassination. But none come close to the cold, hair raising, and dangerously addicting action that Agent 47 brings to video games. Square Enix and the developers at IO Interactive are releasing Hitman: Absolution.

In the fifth title of the series, Agent 47 is taking on his most dangerous contract yet. Betrayed by the ones he once trusted, Agent 47 must run from the police and look out for himself. As the story progresses, the hits become more brutal, more silent and more deadly. There are also new modes being added to the game which will give gamers more gameplay once the campaign is finished…that is, if you’re up to the challenge of completing the ever-so-difficult story mode.

Some new features were added to Absolution’s gameplay. One of these is a simpler but useful aspect. Agent 47 will be able to utilize the background crowds as cover. He can hide in the chaos as he attempts to take down his target, disappearing from the eye of the authorities.

Improvisation is key when making kills and sneaking around. You can choose to be a silent killer in the shadows or go Rambo-style shooting everything in site. Using different tactics will help you succeed in the game, but there is another feature that will definitely put the odds in Agent 47’s favor.

Hitman: Absolution features a new Instinct Mode. This is similar to Batman’s detective mode in Arkham Asylum and Arkham City. Once activated, Agent 47 will be able to see enemies from afar and through walls. Being able to predict their movements will give players an edge and further options for carrying out a contract.

Speaking of contracts, there is a whole new online mode for Hitman: Absolution, and it’s called just that. Contracts is like a deadly game of Simon Says. A player can create their own contract for another player online to complete, using any stage in the campaign, any weapons, disguises, and up to three targets to eliminate. Whatever they use and who ever they kill must be done by the challenging player in a time limit and make it out undetected. This makes for a whole new competitive online network, as players will be able to challenge their friends and other gamers around the world. Fulfilling these contracts will earn players money. The more objectives in a contract completed, the more money earned. The money can be used to buy more weapons, upgrades and disguises. Every week, developers will choose the top five user-made contracts for a leader board as well. Contracts is a completely new feature to the Hitman series, and is sure to be a challenging mode of customization and assassination.

And what’s an assassin without the best gear and killer outfits? Retailers are determined they have the best when you pre-order the title through them. Best Buy features a pinstripe ensemble called the Public Enemy Suit, accompanied by a Bronson 1928M Submachine Gun. Amazon offers the Bartoli Custom Pistol and High Tech suit, a combination that increases a player’s armor by 50 percent. Walmart has an exclusive for a Krugermeier 2-2 Pistol and High Roller Suit. The Krugermeier 2-2 pistol is built with a silencer and is perfect for short range kill. Strong, accurate and reliable, this pistol is perfect for Agent 47’s stealthy style. Gamestop has an exclusive Sniper Challenge and the Agency Kazo TRG Sniper Rifle. The sniper rifle is fully upgradeable with a scope and silencer, keeping you at a safe distance and killing without being noticed. The Sniper Challenge is a mini game available now for those that pre-order. As Agent 47, you will be given a time limit to eliminate as many enemies as possible without being detected. The experience and scores you earn can then be transferred to the actual game once it is released. With so many options for weapons and an early access to gameplay, it’s hard to make such a decision.

Based on the games’ trailers and information, it is shaping up to be fantastic. Detail in the background, vibrant stages, beautifully done cut scenes and action-packed assassinations make Hitman: Absolution one of the most anticipated titles of the fall. It is set to release on November 20 for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC.
