Heart of the Swarm Release Party Pictures and Report

StarCraft 2: Heart of the Swarm is the expansion pack released by Blizzard Entertainment on March 12, 2013 with release party events taking place worldwide. Gaming Illustrated attended the event at The Spectrum in Irvine, California, just miles away from Blizzard’s main campus. Heart of the Swarm follows up on Wings of Liberty and follows the popular Zerg race and their leader, Sarah Kerrigan. The story line in Heart of the Swarm is darker, deeper, and more emotional than gamers saw in the previous edition. As the second installment of the StarCraft 2 saga, players will enjoy a new single-player campaign and massive upgrades to the multiplayer experience.

While attending the release party even in Irvine for Heart of the Swarm, our photographer snapped off a few pictures of the event. As compared to the Mists of Pandaria Release Party, the event was much more tame in the crowd and very few people showed up in costumes. It was to be expected because the StarCraft crowd tends to be more competitive gamers looking to make their mark in eSports competitions, while World of WarCraft players tend to be wrapped up in fantasy and cosplay.
Overall, the event was decently attended and the mood for fans and Blizzard Entertainment employees that were on hand for the Heart of the Swarm release party was very positive. While there wasn’t quite as much over-the-top antics in the crowd with attractive cosplay girls like World of WarCraft had, there was plenty of great SC2 conversation, highlights and giveaways to make the event another successful vibe for those who attended.
