Happy Wars First Free-To-Play Game for Xbox 360

/ Aug 30th, 2012 No Comments

Free-to-play Happy Wars

Xbox 360 is getting its first free-to-play (F2P) game this fall. Happy Wars will be a free multiplayer action title available to Xbox LIVE Gold members through the Xbox LIVE Arcade.

Free-to-play Happy Wars

To keep Happy Wars F2P, a microtransaction system will be implemented. Instead of paying for Happy Wars, additional character options and items can be purchased by players. Gamers can spend real money on unique loot and attire to customize their mini characters.

I say “mini” because the fighters in Happy Wars are adorable. Tiny, rotund, and precious when they run all contribute to their moniker “mini.” There will be hundreds of special items to choose from and items acquired in game can be combined to increase their power. Regular releases of new equipment have been planned for after the game’s launch.

So what can you do with your mini fighter? Other than deck them out in an array of costumes and items, developers at Toylogic have designed cool, fantasy themed, online battle domains. Up to 30 players can combat (15 v 15), destroying fellow minis to seize control of castles. Whether using turrets or magic spells, your mini will need to collaborate with friends to ensure battle-match domination. Other match types include the individual play campaign mode and cooperative play where you and your friends can battle an onslaught of bots.

Besides the awesome fact that this game is free to play, it also looks like a lot of fun. Keep in mind Happy Wars is exactly what it claims to be: a happy, lighthearted war. The graphics and content design are super adorable and the game is rated T for blood and violence. However, the blood and violence you may anticipate should not be expected. This game caters to the totally fictional, cuter side of war. There’s no hemorrhaging from enemies and there’s no blood pools on the battle grounds. Instead, you’re a chubby little mini-buddy waddling around with an over-sized sword.  You can customize your character to be a mummy puppy dog wielding a bone and what may be a pizza box for a shield (it’s difficult to tell what exactly he’s holding). To see what I mean, be sure to check out Toylogic’s summer trailer for Happy Wars below.
