GTA Online Gameplay Revealed, Launches October 1

/ Aug 15th, 2013 No Comments

GTA Online

GTA Online gameplay was officially revealed in a new video posted by Rockstar Games today. GTA Online is described as a “dynamic and persistent online world for 16 players” that is closely tied to the GTA 5 experience. Featuring the redesigned gameplay, mechanics and geography found in GTA 5, GTA Online will eventually grow and expand after launch with new content created by Rockstar and the GTA community.

Rockstar Games is maintaining the heart of the GTA experience by offering an unsurpassed amount of freedom to players. Whether alone or with friends, players will have the opportunity to participate in a large variety of structured and unstructured activities. Unlike the multiplayer found in GTA 4, GTA Online looks to feature a type of story mode where players can interact with NPCs who give out missions and tasks for the player to do.

Similar to GTA 5, pulling off heists and other robberies will be a key element. Crews – a major feature of the Rockstar Social Club and Max Payne 3 – will return, allowing players to complete heists with their established circle of friends. Less structured activities like golf, skydiving, arm wrestling and more will be available for players to participate in. Traditional multiplayer modes like deathmatch and racing competitions (whether by land, air, or sea) will also be featured.

Successfully completing jobs or matches will earn players money and reputation. Money earned in GTA Online can be spent towards multiple upgrades and customization options including hairstyle, clothing, weapons and vehicles. With enough money, players can also purchase an apartment where their friends can meet up or a garage where they can store all their custom vehicles.

Though Rockstar will be constantly updating GTA Online with new content, one of the biggest reveals of the video was the content creator. With the content creator, players will be able to design their own races by placing checkpoints across the map or even have control over weapon and vehicle placement in a custom-designed game of deathmatch. Created content can be shared online and players will be able to jump into any they find.

GTA Online looks to be pure Grand Theft Auto gameplay in a robust online package, offering players just what they should expect from an online GTA experience. GTA Online will be free with every retail copy of GTA 5 but will be available to play on Oct. 1 a few weeks after GTA 5’s official release on Sep. 17.
