Rockstar unveiled the official cover art for Grand Theft Auto 5 on the official company blog after an ad being painted in New York showed the design.

The box art is in line with the design pattern seen on every game in the Grand Theft Auto series since the release of Grand Theft Auto 3.

Main characters Michael, Trevor and Franklin are depicted in different frames of the artwork. The cover also features some of the vehicles players will  use to get around Los Santos, which Rockstar has stated is the largest game they have ever made.

A woman, who has not been revealed as a character, appears in a frame while a dog appears in another. This could signify animals may play some type of role, although it could also mean nothing.

Gamers who have been paying attention to the concept images of GTA 5 previously released by Rockstar will recognize the images. Similarly, players who purchased Grand Theft Auto 4 will notice some nearly identical features between the artwork for both games.

In January, Rockstar said the company would reveal the official cover art for GTA 5 by the end of the month. However, that never took place and Rockstar failed to announce any change of plans.

Last week, the company revealed several new screenshots from GTA 5, showcasing the game’s weapons, vehicles and hobbies such as scuba diving and skydiving.

GTA 5 is set to release on Sept. 17 for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
