Grand Theft Auto 5 is set to release on Sept. 17, Rockstar announced on the company’s official website.

GTA 5 was originally scheduled for a Spring release this year. The later release date makes Rockstar’s latest installment in the long-running third-person open world series one of the few games scheduled to hit store shelves beyond this Spring.

In the announcement, Rockstar expressed disappointment in the delayed release date for GTA 5.

“We know this is about four months later than originally planned and we know that this short delay will come as a disappointment to many of you, but, trust us, it will be worth the extra time,” Rockstar wrote in the post. “GTAV is a massively ambitious and complex game and it simply needs a little more polish to be of the standard we and, more importantly, you require.”

GTA 5 is set to release on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. There is no word yet on a PC or Wii U version of the game. In November, an online petition to bring GTA 5 to PC popped up. The petition has since gained more than 148,000 signatures.

Rockstar went on to express regret for the delay in the announcement.

“To all Grand Theft Auto fans, please accept our apologies for the delay, and our promise that the entire team here is working very hard to make the game all it can be,” Rockstar posted. “We are doing all we can to help ensure it will meet if not exceed your expectations come September – we thank you for your support and patience.”

This is not the first time Rockstar surprised gamers with GTA 5 information. The developer announced the game will have three main playable characters, with players switching between characters. GTA 5 will be set in Los Santos, a city based on real world Los Angeles. It will be the largest environment in a Rockstar game ever.
