/ Nov 22nd, 2013 No Comments

Wing Commander Logo has added the 1994 science fiction flight simulator Wing Commander: Armada to its catalog of 600 plus games. Its addition means the popular gaming distributor sells all eight of the official Wing Commander PC games developed by creator Origin Systems.

This also means that, at the time of this development, is currently the only digital game distributor able to sell all the games with the permission of Electronic Arts: the current copyright holder of the franchise.

To celebrate this accomplishment, a 48 hour promo is being held on allowing customers to purchase all the games for 50% off the final price provided all Wing Commander games are bought together. If registered users already own some of the games in their GOG game library then they can buy all the remaining titles and still receive the discount. The promo ends on Saturday, Nov. 23 at 10.59 AM GMT.

The eight games are free of DRM, all optimized to play on current operating systems and include all official expansion packs  already installed with their repsective games. Furthermore, all games include free extras such as manuals, strategy guides, art, videos, avatars and development documents revealing the behind-the-scenes work that went into making the games.

In addition to the promo, also announced that they will be holding contests with a Wing Commander theme in the coming days.

Beginning in the 1990 with the release of Wing Commander on DOS, the Wing Commander games have revolutionized the space combat simulator genre mixing mission based flight sequences with cinematic storytelling. The popularity of the series is still relevant with a still active fanbase. The success of the games has also spawned numerous novels, an animated TV show and a feature film adaptation.

The latest and ninth game in the franchise, Wing Commander Arena, was released in 2007 exclusively for the Xbox 360.
