The game will be playable for PC and Mac users in North America, Europe and the U.K.
Players who purchase the beta through Steam Early Access will receive future updates all the way through the game’s official release and will receive the full version of the game when it launches at no additional cost.
Godus was originally announced in December, when 22Cans launched a campaign on Kickstarter to fund the project. The campaign reached its goal later that month.
In the game, players take on the role of a god who must spread his influence throughout the world. Gods are only as powerful as their following so it is important to gain new followers.
Players use their abilities to sculpt the land and create a habitable environment allowing the population of believers to flourish. Hundreds of individual non-playable followers live out their lives in the environment with dynamic behavior that players must watch closely. Gamers can conquer new lands by taking on other gods and their followers. Worshipers are prepared to go to battle for their god. In battle, players use their godly powers to alter the world around them and lead their followers to victory.
Godus is a reinvention of Populous, the original god game. It is an innovative mix of a sandbox and strategy game. The game delivers global co-op, competition, creation and destruction with solo play, multiplayer, cross-platform gameplay, a sandbox enivornment, strategic battles, living populations, and the power to create, change, and destroy the structure of the world.
Molyneux is somewhat of a god himself due to his work in the gaming industry. He is famous for his work on the Fable series and released the social multiplayer game Curiosity – What’s Inside the Box? last year.
Godus is also expected to release on iOS and Android devices.
