Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Wildlands: War Within the Cartel

Ubisoft released a new trailer for Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Wildlands: War Within the Cartel before its release on Feb. 16.

The film is a live action prequel to Ubisoft’s upcoming open world action-adventure Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Wildlands. It will be streamed live on Ubisoft’s Twitch channel on Feb. 16. Immediately after the premiere, viewers can watch it on demand through the Amazon Prime Video service.

War Within the Cartel takes place in the same world as Ghost Recon Wildlands, giving viewers a taste at the inside workings Bolivia’s Santa Blanca drug cartel, led by El Sueño, a man as ruthless as he is revered. War Within the Cartel follows the aftermath of an attack on the Santa Blanca compound where the organization’s senior leadership consisting of head of security El Muro, head of production El Yayo, head of operations Nidia Flores, and head of influence El Cardenal, must find a traitor among their ranks. Packed with action, the story of War Within the Cartel culminates in in the events that lead to the game.

Ghost Recon Wildlands follows the elite Special Forces unit known as the Ghosts who fly into Bolivia to wipe Santa Blanca off the map. Players will take out the cartel’s leadership one by one in Ubisoft’s largest open world ever created. In a few short years, Santa Blanca has transformed Bolivia into a narco-state where anyone who opposes the cartel is either bought off or eliminated. Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Wildlands releases on March 7 for PS4, Xbox One, and PC.

Quick Take

Ubisoft is steadily making its push into live action film and media. Players may remember The Division: Agent Origins, which served as a prequel to the events of The Division. It was an enjoyable piece of media to get everyone excited for the game’s impending release and War Within the Cartel will likely serve the same purpose. And with the release of the Assassin’s Creed film last year and a movie adaptation of The Division on its way, we are likely to see more Ubisoft and Tom Clancy properties hitting the big and small screens.
