Gears of War is a franchise that has seen three strong titles with a fourth, Judgement, on its way. People Can Fly’s (somewhat) soon-to-be-released fourth entry into the Gears of War series looks to mix things up a bit by introducing an online free-for-all mode. Whereas previous Gears of War titles featured plenty of team-based multiplayer and co-op modes, none of them allowed individuals to showcase who truly was top dog in online matches. Gears of War: Judgment will finally allow players to gloat about their superior skill in Gears without having naysayers complain about stacked/”imba” teams.
Free-for-all modes have been a popular staple of many modern shooters including Gears of War for quite some time now, so it’s nice to see that People Can Fly is keeping up with the latest trends and “giving the people what they want”. Two new maps specially designed for FFA play will also be featured in the new Gears game: Gondola, a map set in a luxurious high-rise apartment complex, and Library, an archival building dedicated to Alexiy Despich.
The newest Gears game will focus on events that took place years before the original Gears of War trilogy. It will follow the experiences of Kilo Squad, led by Gears mainstays Damon Baird and Augustus Cole as they deal with accusations of treason after a Locust attack on Halvo Bay.
