Gearbox’s Next-Gen IP Battleborn Revealed

Gearbox and 2K announced Battleborn, an upcoming next-gen IP for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
Battleborn is described as a “full-featured triple-A hero shooter.” The game is developed by teams who worked on Borderlands 2. Seen as a fusion of genres, Battleborn combines highly-stylized visuals and fast-paced shooting while blending Gearbox’s trademark co-op combat.
[adsense250itp]Set in a futuristic sci-fi universe, players will engage in a co-op campaign driven by a narrative while also fighting in competitive multiplayer matches. The heroes of the game, called battleborn, are fighting against the Varelsi, who are attempting to destroy the last star in a dying universe.
“If Borderlands 2 is a shooter-looter, Battleborn is a hero-shooter,” said Randy Pitchford, president of Gearbox Software. “As a genre-fused, hobby-grade, co-operative and competitive FPS exploding with eye-popping style and an imaginative universe, Battleborn is the most ambitious video game that Gearbox has ever created.”
Battleborn is set to release in 2015.
Battleborn Reveal Trailer
It’s wonderful to see Gearbox moving past the Borderlands franchise and onto a new IP. Though the trailer doesn’t give much to go on aside from tone and setting, there’s enough to be excited about. Over a series of games, Gearbox’s co-op has continued to entertain. Battleborn should be no different.
